When it was mandated months ago that credit card chips would become the new way of paying for items, many worried about expenses of switching cards over as well as customer reactions to changing their habits.
However, one of the bigger problems was one not taken into consideration: The chips take a long time and are holding up lines.
Rather than the quick swipe credit card holders are accustomed to, they now have to insert their cards and wait a long time for the reader to pick up on it. Often, people insert their cards incorrectly, remove them too quickly, or the readers are just not working yet.
In a world where people are used to moving fast and have credit cards for exactly that reason, this unforeseen issue is proving to be problematic.
